Hello there Bonsai Empire community.

I just recently start with bonsai, I have been reading a lot on the website, I subscribe to the beginner online courses (they are really helpful) I got the Juniper eBook and I been reading online too but I still have some doubts particular with deciduous trees.

Like I says I just start and I decide get some young trees online for locals nurseries, I got 3 junipers, 1 ficus, 2 cypress and 1 acer palmatum. With the online courses i was able to reppot 2 of the junipers and one of the cypress and the ficus a week ago, I'm just waiting for more pots to arrive so I can plant the other juniper and the cypress and later wait into autumn for the wiring and pruning.

My question is I don't know what to do with the acer Okagami, the tree is young probably 90 cm long, and Im not even sure if this acer will be suitable for bonsai.I'm from New Zealand so here right now is early spring, I would like to achieve a thick trunk but I have some questions about it, I been reading and watching a lot.

I can't bury the tree I don't have enough room in my courtyard for do that, so I been thinking in a pot, but what kinda of pot i should used? Or i should used a basket?
Should I leave the tree grow wile or try to do some pruning and wiring later this year?
What sort of mix i should used for growing in a pot? i got some organic potting mix, high nitrogen organic fertilizer and some seaweed tonic. Is this the correct mix or should I used something different?

Thanks!

For the ones not yet repotted, get a pretty good sized pot, a couple of centimeters bigger than the root ball.

Give them plenty of sun, water well when they are dry, and fertilize. Water and sun are most important. The trunks will probably not thicken up a whole lot since they aren't in the ground, but this will give them the best growth.
