New Maple - need to repot and Prune Hard was created by scrawford423

Hi,
I realize this is not the right time of year to repot, so I will wait until early spring/ late winter. I have a new maple I got from Home depot that I need to prune hard + repot at some point. Can I do both at the same time? Or should I repot first? Or prune it now and repot later this year? I am worried the tree might not recover well if I prune hard now.

The best thing to do is plant it in the ground and let it grow, thickening the trunk. This tree will take several years to thicken up enough to call it a bonsai.
