Moss on top of Redwood Trees

What is everyone's advice on putting moss onto the soil of some Dawn Redwoods i have i think it looks quite nice and it will help with the moisture .

You can do it for aestetic reasons. But there are no benefits for the trees and it is important to keep the moss away from the trunks.
