Great site. Thank you. I have a question about purchasing sheet moss online as I don't live in an area with much moss in the wild. Can I take said sheet moss and grind it in a sieve to be mixed with sphagnum moss to create a top dressing, or is online store-bought sheet moss only used to place on the bonsai for display? I hope that made sense.
Wishing all of you a great holiday.

I only use sphagnum moss on my trees, does the job. I can collect moss as well. I don't think it matters much. Where are you that there is no moss?

Thanks for your response. I live in Madison, WI, and we do have some moss here and there, but either it's on others' property or in park areas where I'm reluctant to disturb the ecosystem.

Why do you want moss, That's a question you should ask yourself. You can spread moss on the ground surface of finished trees, for an exhibition for example.
When your tree is still developing, there is no need to plant moss, it makes it especially difficult to check whether the tree needs water.
