I'm new to forum bonsai.I'm just a beginner to bonsai.
I'm worried about my ficus religiosa bonsai as some of the branches has dried out completely n the tree has very less foliage.

What is your watering schedule? What substrate are you using? How long have you had the tree? With no information/ background, no assessment can be made. Photos?

What is your watering schedule?

There is no watering schedule or agenda when watering bonsai trees...

You are correct. I suppose I worded it incorrectly. I have found some people water on a schedule regardless of the moisture in the soil. I was expecting a response from the op such as, " I water daily or every other day." Or maybe once a week, we don't know. I was digging for additional information since there was so little to begin with.
Water when the chop stick comes out of the soil clean is a standard I hear often. Or purchase a moisture meter until you know the requirements of your tree.

A moisture meter isn't of much use if you don't know what value it should display. Enlighten us please.

The basic moisture meters that I have seen typically read "dry - moist - wet". They don't give a specific value or number.

If it were my tree, I would water it thoroughly. Then when the meter read the middle to upper end of dry, water thoroughly again.

Where would you measure - top or bottom?

I'm not trying to be rude, just curious, but is there an alterior motive to your questions? I have been skimming the forum for a while and typically don't post anything because there are several people on here that know much more than I do, yourself included. I'm no expert, definitely a novice. I have managed to keep a few trees alive for about two and a half years but by definition I doubt they are bonsai.
