The following suggestions, thoughts, and observations will appear on this Thread every two to four weeks or as my schedule allows.

A Gnarled Thought:

Consider keeping a bonsai journal. A bonsia journal is an excellent way to keep track of your precious creations progress as well as keeping track of important information for your own reference.

Idealy get a journal that matches the style in you bonsai collection. Get a nice box to store your journals when they become full.

Write down the Date, Time, Temperature, Atmospheric Conditions, and any work done on your bonsai for the period of time you choose. Preferably make an entry every day or at least once a week.

A bonsai can live hundreds of years if cared for properly. Therefore a well logged journal would be an excellent way to preserve your bonsais history for future generations.

A Gnarled Thought:

People who tend and practice the art of bonsai have within themselves a heart of peace. The very nature of this art is peace itself.

Yet practioners of bonsai are not above making hard decisons or fighting for what they believe. By taking these trees under your wing you stand up for them and protect them against the unyielding mark of nature and time. You refine through effort what would remain natural or unrefined.

The bonsai is an extension of yourself yet at the same time it's a force unto itself. This may seem contradictory but there's more to these little trees than you merely trimming them. There's something mystical aobut shaping and allowing creation to shape you. Through watching the bonsai you see how it must bend to your will. Somewhat like your own life. You must sometimes be bent to the will of another for your own growth.

The merging of man and plant together in the artform of bonsai makes this subject trully an infinite mystery.

Dealing with the death of a prized bonsai specimen can be a truly sobering experience. However, a bonsai artist knows that nothing truly dies. It merely changes form. As stated in The First law of thermodynamics, energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can be converted from one form to another. Therefore, even if a bonsai is no longer with us it is understood that it transcends death and merely moves on. Scientifically and philosophically the bonsai is immortal.

Here's a quick Gnarled Thought:

In the art of bonsai there is no destination only a journey.
