does the subject HAVE to be about bonsai because that would restrict the amount of thoughts possible.

Well you could try other subjects, but bonsai are less controversial in nature. I would say keep the conversation to bonsai, gardening, or plants.

If we discuss deep subjects like souls or our higher relationship with the universe I fear we'll get bogged down.

Not that either of those subjects are bad, but I would prefer subjects that are less likely to have people disagreeing to the point of anger or rudeness.

Why not discuss autumn and how it affects you and your plants?

hmmm. i think were all adults here, or at least mature enough not to argue about our beliefs. so i think one thing you may think another. i do enjoy other peoples point of veiw, some make sence to me some dont were still people that love bonsai.
my belifs are based on scientific and logical pricipals with a twist of spirituality...that spirituality part seems to cause more arguments ,but to each his/her own

with this said what are your beliefs ...if you dare

i think the world and live keeps on going because of physics and chemistry.

every living thing needs chemistry.

but i believe in karma and ying yang(fits with the chemistry) and i think there is something bigger but i do not know what.

in the ways of determinism(how everything is already set, all your moves and thoughts). of those, the one i like the most is chemical determinism(everything you think and do is controlled by chemical reactions.)

After reading 100's of books on philosophy, religion, and what-not. My conclusion is fecal matter happens, here or there whether I am here or there it will still happen. If the wind uproots a tree, it will happen whether I am there or not. A lot of fecal matter seems to happen around me anyway,so I deal with it and move on.

to me everything revolves around energy.every living thing has an electrical charge from the smallest microbe to the tallest tree. is this spark a "spirit"
i believe yes technically, it is what makes things alive, but does this mean my lawn has a spirit?
this then brings in the "afterlife" if energy is conserved as physics shows then the "spark" must continue. is it all halos and fire ...thats just not logical. will i end up being a tuft of grass in someones lawn ... unlikely
the way i see it is we are here on earth and our "spark" eventually changes form to allow us to travel on to somewhere else ???
this is were my big bang and black hole theories come into play and things can get confusing
