growing in large pots or the ground speeds up the trunk development. I read somewhere that 1 year in the ground is equal to 5 years in a pot.

Ive also heard the 1 year in ground = 5 years in pot saying.


Wisteria is definitely a species I need to research and eventually acquire. Such beautiful flowers.

I have one in a pot. It's a Thyme bonsai. It's been potted maybe 3 months and I already had to trim the roots! That's about the only downside to an herbal bonsai. It needs constant trimming and maintaining.

I currently have 4 bonsais that are in the ground for training but I'm not touching them at least for another year.

I mainly have large trees most evergreens because of the location i live. Decidious trees don't do well near the beach here due to strong winds sand and salt.
But i have about 10 trees that are close to being called bonsai and some close to there final stage of development.
About 10 trees i'm working on and can be called projects.
And soon about 35 trees will be arriving for sale purpose, because the previous owner ended his hobby because of health problems.

But my own trees are alot of Junipers & Pines, 1 oak, 1 Japanese 'arakawa'maple, 1 wisteria, 2 trident maples, 1 Wisteria and 1 fat swampcypres
