Which would go well with a plant we already mentioned earlier in another thread:
The coconut bonsai!

"It even has jin" :woohoo:

As usual, in the discussion about this plant, someone says it is bonsai, as bonsai means 'plant in a pot'.
That means that, while I thought I don't have indoor bonsai, I now suddenly appear to have about 10...

I have a friend who used a roof tile for a trident forest. Picked it up from a rubble pile while he was in Japan. Traditional, no. But interesting, yeah.

The tile was similar to this.

Hmm... How about Mallsai from a proper nursery, and so more expensive than regular Mallsai?

Oh, and I'd also like to nominate the term 'Indoor Bonsai'

Good point... indeed proper nurseries sell the typical S-shaped bonsai too. There's one in the Netherlands that imports them and sells them to other nurseries. Why? Because people buy them. They gotta make a living too. Real good bonsai are expensive and probably you won't sell much of 'm.

IF the 'proper nursery' has:
- Made a careful selection (rather than just calling one of these large ali-baba companies to ship containers full of 'm)
- Repotted the tree after arrival
- Has kept it for a while until it was clear the plant is healthy and growing

then they make costs. I guess the average costs for a bonsai nursery are much higher than those of a common nursery, so the tree will be more expensive. In some cases... yeah, a bit too much more expensive.

Oh, and I'd also like to nominate the term 'Indoor Bonsai'

Again, you've got a point. However, "Tree that belongs outside in the right climate, will die in our climate, but can survive indoors if you take proper care' is so long :)

Looks like the zelkova seller is only 5 hours from me. Next business trip to the area may warrant a visit. I'll bring him a coconut, and tell him he doesn't know what he's missing.

Me.. not so much. Many many respectfull bonsai nurseries will sell seedlings, either for rootgrafts, or for development into bonsai. It is not so that it cannot be done. It just takes some decades. He is clearly stating pre-bonsai seedling.

So what's a pre-bonsai seedling? A seedling that isn't a pre-bonsai yet ?
