Can I make the trunk of this Juniper thinner? was created by TooMuchSoup

Hi

I got this plant from a discounter. I want to see what I can make of it. Unfortunately the trunk looks way too thick to put it in a shallower pot. I was thinking to make the trunk thinner somehow, but couldn't find anything regarding THINNING a trunk on google. It's just a billion times "How make it thicker".

Maybe if I cut it in half? Any ideas?

Hi,

Juniper

A good forum for your ficus houseplant is:

So then it's a ficus. It's also a bonsai. :)
You're saying you have not the slightest idea how to do that?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
Please note this is a forum about a specific part of growing plant, namely, growing bonsai. And yes, Ikea or the other big box store where you bought this probably told you this is a bonsai. It is however, not. ( www.growingbonsai.net/why-is-my-tree-not-a-bonsai/ )

Look for care on ficus ginseng, or any othe ficus for that matter., They love sun, warmth, moisture and need fertilizer.

As for your question, look at carving.

Is this not a forum where I could get questions answered about growing and trimming and shaping and modeling...
What was that plant before all this was done? Where would someone get particular tips about his specific little plant he is going to make a bonsai out of, if not in a forum for bonsai? A forum for houseplants?? They don't have the expertise, do they?

It certainly is not.

Nope. This is a bonsai forum, not a topiary forum.

Well, even if they lack some expertise, they will certainly not have your horrible nobility. I can live with that.
Traditional Japanese gaijin stuff here, good on you. I'm even having the pest, perfect! (It's dust, btw) Keep up the imitation and die off or check your manner and gain member.

Even if you don't mean it that way. That is what you are. And that is why I mean it. *flip*

It is weird how you not know that there is a whole sub-section of this Forum dedicated to that. www.bonsaiempire.com/forum/train-and-shape
Are you getting all your 4313 posts from posting there how this is not the correct forum to post such questions? Are all your 4313 posts just as arrogant as these two here? Do you have any friends that you only know through this forum?
I just can't wrap my head around how arrogant you are OVER BONSAI.

Look. You have been clearly told it is a bosai forum and your plant is not qualified as such. He was not arrogant, he just simply told you the truth. Would it be better if he told you it was a bonsai and good luck with and mybe later on you find out yourself that it is not, then you would come back to complain.

Your plant is not a bonsai. Thats it. But its okay most of us have house plants as well.

And yeah this forum is also about how you can manage to create a bonsai tree over long years out of raw materials. But you have a grafted plant on a unsuitable root, which is almost imposibble to train a bonsai out of it. You know it is possible to score a goal over the half line in a football game, but you don't see them practising it in a traning.

Training of Bonsai, indeed. But what did I expect from someone who doesn't know the difference between a ficus and a juniper...
