None of us are born with a knowledge of cooking,painting or creating bonsai from raw plant materials, we learn these things from others that share.

IMHO the first step in seeing this ancient art continue to grow and develop is having people with new ideas and concepts become involved. Yes you need to have benchmarks to maintain standards, but (there is always a but) be prepared to see these benchmarks change from time to time.

Well enough idle chit chat, people will do what they want, regardless of our opinions.

I am off to have a cleansing ale whilst trying not to kill off a new stick in a pot.

First lesson learned: a juniper cutting in a pot is not a bonsai, it's a scam by someone who wants to make money by selling something in which he has invested practically nothing.

Thank you so much to the people who didn't think giving advice was useless. It makes me sad that I've been fooled. Next time I will make a more thoughtful and informed decision. I started off on the wrong foot, but one must learn from their mistakes, right? I hope this post is a good reference for more newbies to come.

It just gets very tiresome to see the endless strream of cuttings passed as bonsai on the forum. You may have noticed I have just started to ignore them
