Any good indoor and outdoor bonsai trees for PNW? was created by Zer0evil

Hello,
I live in central Washington State, USA, and I was wondering if anybody knows a bonsai tree that is both indoor and/or outdoor at the same time?
My tree hardness zone is 6 & 7.
Thank you for any advice and tips, I do appreciate your time.

Do you mean, you want to move the tree from inside to outside regularly? Most trees don't respond well to that. Some tropical trees might do ok inside in the winter and outside in the summer... but I wouldn't recommend doing that other than in extreme situations. but maybe I misunderstood you.

Hi Zero. There are no bonsai-trees. There are trees we turn into bonsai. There is also no such thing like indoor bonsai. Trees grow in the open, only sometimes we keep some of them inside if outside is not ok for them. Such exception is for tropical/subtropical trees when you live out of sub/tropics, which is your case. If you cant grow outside pick a Ficus or other tropical tree, otherwise look around and see what spices grow in your area and then choose one for your future bonsai. Good luck.

If trees were supposed to move around, they would have developed legs...
The question probably is: why would you want this, why would you need a tree that can be both indoors and outdoors?
Unless when you want something like this, which actually is:
"a tree that is both indoor and/or outdoor at the same time"

LOL, that's awesome. I meant one that you could move around, from an outside porch to a coffee table, that kind of thing. But the more I read the better I understand.

Trees don't like to be moved around, especially when it's from one climate to another.
However, if the tree is strong and healthy, you can keep it indoors for a limited time (one or two days), unless when there's a big difference between the indoor and outdoor temperature/humidity.

You can bring your tree indoors for showing if you are having guests or something. This you do very occasionally. Trees belong outdoors.

Like they all said, plants require time and patience to become acclimated to their environment. But you're not asking for anything impossible. Hardy, shade tolerant established trees should be fine or easily kept inside. Taxus Brevifolia, (Western Pacific Yew) is a PNW native and would make a great specimen that naturally grows in the understory of old growth Douglas Fir forests. They like soggy soil but are drought tolerant as well and very slow growing like most Yew species. Western Hemlocks, bald cypresses and Cedars do well as long as watered properly. I move my Coastal Redwood between my living room and my patio all the time. Happy hunting.
