I think so.
If they are burnt, they are doing nothing but shading the lower branches.

ok cool i thought so. i did notice this morning some new growth appearing that might need some sun.

so im looking to chop my maple at the marked blue line on the picture below (picture from early spring for trunk clarity). looking to create a new apex as others mention on this thread before, due to the lack of taper. we just hit autumn here in the states and some of my deciduous trees are starting to lose their leaves. is this a good time to perform a chop like so? of course i would be applying cut paste and what not. or if you suggest i chop somewhere else please explain.

always seem to remember to take a before picture mid way through pruning lol but here it is after pruning yesterday. new sacrifice leader to build a new apex.
