This is a zelkova that my landlord wanted me to get rid of. It has too much potential ot trash without trying to pot it up. Yes the pot is an oil drain pan, got it for $2.00. The roots are not that good but if it survives until next year I will ground layer it. I want to get a good nebari on this one. The trunk is a bit over 2.5 inches across. Oh and it was growing right up against the shed.

The buds are still swelling, so I think it will make it. Most of the roots were under the shed. These things grow like weeds here, the small ones can be pulled out most of the time and they will grow. If you are wondering why they are bare rooted, we have sand for dirt here. As soon as you start to dig something up it just crumbles off the roots. In most cases it can't be helped. This is going to sound weird but, I live in a high mountain desert or that's what everyone out here calls it.

wow so digging up tree is so easy...a sandy soil is soft when wet. Nice place.

Not really, it's very dry here and gets really hot. All my trees suffer if the afternoon sun hits them for an hour or two. We have to water our lawns twice a day in the summer to keep them alive.

Pretty much, was 81 sunday today low 30s. High winds yesterday and today. I had to move some of my trees yesterday, wind blew them over. Oh yeah it snowed last night and is in the forecast today.

Really nice Zelkova's, I think they look good, now let them recover first, and now you have enough time to think of the styling! :)
