Outside pic is yesterday after removing the wires @ 5 months.
It started as a rather dense ball. The first wire was about as much work as I felt comfortable pushing it. about 1/4 of the foliage was removed in Feb. Should i prune it back now and wire it again to flatten out my pads or wait until closer to winter?

It looks like your juniperus is not too happy. Have you recentely pruned? Or are you in the southern hemispehre? Healthy juniperus should be pusihing runners now in mid-summer. If your tree is not growing runners, you need to focus on health before wiring.
I'm South of the Bay area. very hot dry in summer lots of sun. I did fert about a week ago, and only took off the wires, only pruning was a pinch here and there while removing wires.
I've had this about a year, haven't potted it again yet.
scratch test shows good green under all branches.
I think it was in just a tad too much shade about 4 -5 hrs : and should have had a bit more sun than it did for the last 2 months. I moved it to an area with 6 to 8.
Cool. Whereabouts? Ontario? Never been to the hudson bay, although I did spend a bit of tie in Canada (London/kitchener area) before heading south into the USA).
I woud say, let it get strong before rewiring. In any case, heavier bends are better done at the end of summer, to avoid slipping of the bark.
Bay area,, South of San Francisco. Mostly Coastal Desert climate, I'm inland zone 9 Gilroy CA.
I know I should repott next spring. That is FEB for us here. :::but for the fact that it hasn't done much growing this summer. Runners it threw were only about 30mm long. 1.5", I was wondering if I should do it now. I don't know when it was last repotted. It looked rather established when I got it last fall, but I didn't want to muck with it without getting to know it a year first.
Leatherback - at what point do you cut back your runners if you are pruning to shape/silouhette
I do not really have juniper trees that I am fully satisfies with. So I rarely trim to shape. I so far always have branches I want to replace of move. But when I trim, in spring the first trim is after I get runners of 5+ cm. And those I cut to into the woody area, back to a little side-branch. The hows of juniper trimming are however for me a challenge still. I have one tree that I cannot seem to get out of growing juvinile. This spring I was told I should hold of longer trimming. I was spending too much effort on keeping the tree nice, so it could not grow strong. This one is now without a trim since last fall (And growing scale on every tip). One big ball of green fur.
Do you know the species of Juniper you are dealing with? Some are more difficult than others and some are impossible and you are better off to be satisfied with Juvenile growth.
