Hello. I am Trent, and I live in Minnesota, USA. I enjoy creative activities, including writing, gardening, landscaping, carpentry and basic sewing. I admire and respect all creative endeavors.

After buying a home with a yard earlier in life, I was drawn to gardening with traditional outdoor plants as well as native plants and ornamental grasses. I quickly discovered that thinking about ideas for gardens, planting and maintaining gardens had a calming effect. It was a pleasant surprise to find something that could help me feel peace of mind and eliminate stress.

For the past couple of years, I have been interested to learn more about bonsai. I found this website and would visit occasionally, always with the thought that "some day" I would purchase and shape my first bonsai tree for inside my home. For a long time, it was always "some day" in my mind.

I decided recently: If not now, when? So I purchased a starter boxwood at a local nursery. Using the boxwood video from this site, I trimmed and shaped the tree. I used copper wire (not electrical).

Here is a photo of my bonsai. It has been about two weeks since shaping it. Today is 25 February, 2022. I am happy to have found this site and am here to learn and develop my skills with bonsai. I welcome feedback and recommendations.

I look forward to meeting others on the site. Take care.

Trent

Thank you, TropFrog. This is very helpful to know. If it survives to spring, I will plant it outdoors. If it does not survive, I will have learned a valuable first lesson. In the meantime, I will look into indoor bonsai. Do you have favorites for indoors?

Hi Trent,

welcome to the empire.
Will you make a separate thread for your boxwood? Then we can discuss a bit further on the good, the bad and the ugly :)

Growing trees indoors is the hardest and most advanced part of the hobby. Given all the threads here at BE with dieing indoor treed, I havent dared to try. I stick to outdoors and greenhouse cultivation.
