I do not think I would have bought it. Besides the barking up of the trunk, I see nothing to really get excited about. The trunk is fairly straight. Lots of branches as spokes on the same height, which will lead to bulges in the trunk. Literati? It is a straight trunk. Not enough there for a literati.

I can't really see it but judging by the foliage it gives me the impression that the top half of the tree swings back and I imagine it to be a bit twisty , that's why I was thinking literati but I'm probs wrong :)

And little useful branches down the trunk, with foliage far away from the trunk. I cannot help but wonder why so many people reply "Nice tree" when it is in fact a not so nice tree for bonsai.

Can I correct myself?
"Healthy tree", instead of "Nice tree".
After so many ugly/dying plants, a refresh.

No tree is not good, just "not quite right for bonsai".
However, we must appreciate God's creation masterpiece. The advantages and disadvantages of a tree are also part of God's creation.:)

Please leave deities out of it. I am here for bonsai, not personal live convictions. And a tree can be not good for bonsai.

It is definitely a tree, meaning you could start gaining experiences on it. Where the branches line up on all direction you could remove the one or the other to reduce bulking. There is always a way to do things with any tree, so why not playing and learning on this one. As your experience increase, you may find another pine and have gained knowledge on the of the present tree. I would at least go for it if it would be mine.
