Yup, I exchanged that for 1.50,-. No wounded left behind..

That Repanda was in his pot since 2013, according the faded paper hanging from the branches.

That not looks too good. The general nursery potting soil was wet as a sea sponge.

Untangled a little bit and pruned just the dead ones. Otherwise, the roots looks healthier than I thought. I don’t disturb them much more than necessary.

Brittle dead branches removed, and I even take out needles one by one carefully to not disturbing the new sprouts. Not every of course, they’ll fall anyway soon or later.

Now I let it be in peace on the road of recovery or death. Whatever way it’ll choose, I’ll update the topic.

Wow, the root system was a mess! On which criteria did you decide which root to cut and which one to keep? Nevertheless you did a fantastic job, the tree has a lot of potential, I love it !

I don't like the looks of some dead foliage, but if there's new growth there is hope.
Being spring, it has good chances.

BTW, do you really need that branchlet that's going down on the right?

Thanks for the kind words Røng. I’m a bit more skeptic, but most of the times I’ve got lucky with half dead things. As potential.. Maybe it have, but we have chance that I don’t have potential to bring it out.

Oh.. About the roots! From my plant experience:
If it’s rotten, the root bark (term?) coming off, like your socks. The dry dead ones are brittle. The healthy ones stay more flexible (size dependent) and the bark covers tightly.
Someone plz correct me if I’m wrong.

I see new growth, so hope dies last.
No, really not, but I didn’t want to make any designing before it’s healthy. Every branch who have a little living needle I left on (okay, accidentally I cut one, but psst...). The root system seems can support it.

.. tricky baby that you found there.
Make sure you wet the foliage frequently, and give it some sun for a few hours in the morning. Then just wait and hope?

Both had girdling roots, but the campestre looks worth. I’ll need to solve it ASAP, so tomorrow I’ll buy a suitable tool for the work. Even like this I don’t think I can save it, but I have to try for the peace of my soul..

The Nothofagus are a different story. Got root rot just to top the gridling, but the neglect save lives sometimes. In the nursery it was constantly in wet soil, but when it started to loosing every leaf, they throw near a shed where noone watered it. He’s got a little breath and started to sprouting out and forming some new roots.

When you assure yourself they are indeed alive, you are going to chop them down, aren't you?
