Pale green and brown needles are a sure sign of a sick or dying juniper.One big problem with them is that they stay green after death so most people think they are still alive.
I have searched the internet and found nothing on why the tips of your juniper would turn purple. Are the needles attached firmly to the branch or are they brittle? If they stay on when lightly pulled they are okay.
It could be a fungus or an insect.
If you can, please post a picture. I'm really interested in this. I like a good challenge and will do everything I can to help

When looking at the tree the top of the growing tips are a purpilish colour. When pulling on the foliage they are firm. Will only be able to post a pic on Saturday or sunday.

That's a good sign that the tips aren't brittle. It may just be the color of new growth.
My juni's new growth looks nothing like mature needles for a month or so.
I can't wait to see the pictures.

This little juni looks sick.
The picture is blurry but the tips look brown and dead. Put it in a shaded area of your yard and let it rest.

Some of the tips are dead. I'm just glad the tree made it through the winter cause it was/is a bit sickly. Would it be better if I repot it with new soil without root pruning? I know I can't fertilize when the tree is sick so I was thinking of repotting into better, more organic soil. Should I use a more free draining soil?


If the tree dies it won't be a tragedy, but I also don't want to lose the tree. ANY help would be appreciated.

Here is also another pic of one of the branches. Last year the tree was pruned and repotted. So this year my plan was to leave it to get more bushier.

I would put it in another pot and set it in a partially shaded area to recover until you see new growth.

So the plan is as follows then:

I will repot it but will only cut of the damaged or dead roots. I will put it in more open soil and put in partial shade. It will only be done on sunday unfortunately.
