Then start accepting the advise you get.

Unfortunately I have seen very little advice and even less encouragement in this topic for getting started with the fascinating living art of Bonsai. MAST3RFARM3R227, I apologize for the bad start you experienced here - I suggest we start advising properly from this thread forwards. The discussion on what is Bonsai and what not is boring and irrelevant, in that nobody started this hobby in any other way than with a cheap plant.

Do you have any specific, additional questions? One topic I suggest you might read is about creating a bonsai from a starterkit, it explains the very basic steps to create shape in your tree and explains basic care. Also, read the article on the Juniper under the Species section.
Hope this helps!

First of all, very nice you posted here. We all started somewhere and there we go, no masters are without making mistakes and learning. I thank you for posting, keep going. If you like your trees, which I believe you do, spend some time reading and looking around.
I had a small tree just like yours, and it is progressing nicely, so will yours.

Here what it has become, a few more years and I can call it a Bonsai.

So stay on the forum and have fun, as I said we all started like you, time will tell and for sure in a few years you will advice others on how it goes.

Out of curiosity.. Is it just the person posting which you find helpfull? Or is there something else.
I thought the first two answers you were given were exact, to the point and helpfull. yet these get a lot of backfire. Then someone posts effectively the same answer as I did, and you go out of your way to make your point that that is such a good answer.
If you are going to work with plants like these, keep in mind that a typical rule of thum is that a tree is about 6 to 12 times as high as the trunk is thik: You have a lot of growing to do. You will not get this sort of thickening any time soon unless planted in the soil.

Thank you, that was the one bit of information I've never heard on any site, and it's in the best soil I can put it in

growingbonsai.net is horrible self promotion. :) I try to post there when Ihave time to think if a new topic.
Two sites I always found helpfull are:
Harry Harrington has good info on bonsai4me
The site of Walter Pall has good info
Note that a lot of bonsai growing is just good horticulture. So I work a lot with general info on individualspecies and try to work from there. Only aestetics are hard to learn online, and there help from some succesfull artists is very usefull
